Pictured above, the cover image for Fractal Sextet’s forthcoming second album Sky Full Of Hope.
I was super glad that Fractal Sextet warranted a second album as it became apparent after the first album that we clearly had more mileage to cover the collaboration.
Sky Full Of Hope features the same line up as the eponymous first album, namely Stephan Thelan and my Burnt Belief/”the D in EDK” partner Jon Durant on guitars, Fabio Anile on keyboards, Yogev Gabay on drumkit, Andi Pupato on his inimitable and super precise percussion, and of course yours truly on bass.
IMHO Sky Full Of Hope represents a very particular form of musical chemistry which seems to have manifested in a very natural and straightforward manner, despite geographical and cultural differences there’s a lot of common ground. For those familiar with the first album, the music is a continuation and development of what came before, with all the distinctive elements present but if anything, to my ears, which are admittedly a bit too close to judge, it’s more accessible and focussed than album one, despite being an equally deep trip into some very unusual and lesser explored odd time and polyrhythmic depths.
You can read a rare and in depth interview with all 6 Fractal Sextet member on Anil Prasad’s long running Innerviews website here: https://www.innerviews.org/inner/fractal-sextet
Sky Full of Hope is released via Rarenoise Records (…also home to Metallic Taste of Blood, Obake, Twinscapes and the second O.R.k. album) and can be found on CD and vinyl through this Bandcamp link below:
The album will be officially released on November 22nd, 2024 in four formats:
- 24bit download
- 6 panel CD Digipack + 24bit download
- Gatefold Double Vinyl (edition of 500, crystal) + 24bit download
- Gateforld Double Vinyl (edition of 200, marbled magenta) + 24bit download
Worth mentioning also that all physical orders will ship from Austria, which should mitigate all those tiresome post Brexit duties for any European buyers.
There will also be a Bandcamp listening party. I’ll try and post details to my Substack notes when I have them.
Oh, I need to buy this cd! But probably will wait till Bandcamp Friday so all the money goes to the band.
